Wide choice of Multidisciplinary Activities

An institution is more than the fundamental departments. With different competitions to dedicated laboratories for ideas, read about the wide choice of multidisciplinary activities at K J Somaiya College of Engineering.

Smart India Hackathon

Since 2017, Smart India Hackathon (SIH) is a nationwide initiative to provide students a platform to solve some of the pressing problems we face in our daily lives, and thus inculcate a culture of product innovation and a mindset of problem solving.

Technology Students across India compete to creatively solve problems and offer technical solutions Harness expertise of students from AICTE/UGC approved institutions, IITs, NITs and IISc.

KJSCE is very active in participating in SIH since last 3 years and has bagged prizes worth 5 Lakh

eYantra Lab

Since 2016, In collaboration with IIT Bombaye-Yantra is a flagship project of the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD, Govt. of India) funded under the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT) at IIT Bombay to spread education in Embedded Systems and Robotics in undergraduate engineering and polytechnic colleges.

The main objective of e-Yantra is to train students in the art of innovation and eventually entrepreneurship in a step-by- step manner using a “Project Based Learning” approach.

K J Somaiya College of Engineering uses eyantra lab extensively for :

  • Audit courses since January 2016
  • Project development
  • Internships Since May 2018 at KJSCE as well as at IIT
  • eYantra Robotic Competition (eYRC): learning through competitions
  • eYantra Ideas Competition (eYIC) : encouragement to innovation
  • Conduction of regional finals of eYIC competitions
  • Participation in content creation
  • eYantra Symposium: opportunity to interact with fellow teachers across the nation doing similar activities and also listen to experts in the field.

Biomedical Engineering and Technological Incubation Cell (BETiC) Lab

BETiC lab is an engineering partnership with IIT Bombay BETiC lab, started in 2015-16 with projects Initiated by Dr Ramesh Lekurwale. In 2018 MoU is signed with IIT Bombay.

BETiC bring Doctors and Engineers together. All projects undertaken are in the field of Medicine and originate from the need statement from practitioners.

Conduction of MeDHA ( Medical hackathon) for 3 years followed by development of proof of concept during MEDIC( Medical Device Innovation Camp).

More than 8 faculty members from Mechanical , Electronics, Computer and the IT department are actively involved in the development of various projects in the field of Medicine. So far 7 MTech and 1 BTech projects are developed under BETiC laboratory, out of which Design and Development of Craniotomy for Skull Cutting is ready for technology transfer.

Awareness about needs in the field of Medical electronics, Physiotherapy etc has given good insight to faculty and students for project development.

Virtual lab Nodal Center:

Nodal centre for VLAB (NC10) under IIT-Bombay in 2014. Virtual Labs is a IIT project initiated by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, under the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT).

Virtual labs, available for 24 x 7 , are interactive simulators that mimic physical lab circuits / devices / components or set up.College has a nodal centre for VLAB (NC10) under IIT-Bombay in 2014.

It is been used extensively for :

  • Experiments where hardware is not available
  • Simulations to supplement teaching
  • Practice sessions for students

Development of Experiments in the Virtual lab of Machine learning by our students under guidance of Dr. Nirmal , lab was reviewed by IITB internal committee and approved. Lab developed by KJSCE is now available at IITB __VLabDev portal.
