A review on role of electric vehicle in reducing carbon footprint: A case study of Maharashtra
- Abstract
The transport sector is the largest contributors to carbon emissions in the state of Maharashtra which is one of the most industrialized states of India. With the rising urbanization and traffic flow, the state Carbon Index which indicates emissions per unit of economic and population activity is still high. This paper aims to examine the possibility of using EV to decrease carbon emissions and thus the Carbon Index in Maharashtra. It examines the effect of EV adoption on the emissions from motor vehicles, assesses the current state of EV policies and plans in the state and looks at the integration of renewable energy with EV charging facilities. Despite of numerous benefits of EV for mitigating air pollution and climate change, challenges such as limited infrastructure, high costs, and consumer hesitancy persist. Through application of technological improvements, robust policies, and renewable energy integration, EV can serve a important role in reducing the state’s carbon footprint and promoting a low-carbon economy.
