Mumbai, September 30, 2016: Somaiya Vidyavihar campus witnessed a high voltage buzz with "Abhiyantriki 2016" their most awaited intercollegiate engineering festival organized by K. J. Somaiya School of Engineering (KJSSE), Somaiya Vidyavihar.
This year the college went a step further and organized the tech fest for two days, for the first time in 25 years. Abhiyantriki showcased an extended lineup of events and competitions.
The highlight of the tech fest however was undoubtedly, the participation of ISRO,Indian Space Research Organisation that held a two day long exhibition on 30th September and 1st October. The Vikram Sarabhai Space Exhibition (VSSE) had static panels related to remote sensing satellites, about Chandrayaan-1 and Mars mission, models of camera of mars mission, satellite images and parts used in satellites were displayed.Models of launch vehicles like PSLV & GSLV were also put up, various satellite models of INSAT and IRS, OCM, Aryabhatta, RISAT, etc. Also a working model showing satellites orbiting around earth were displayed.6 senior ISRO scientists interacted with students and shared their views on how the Indian space community has evolved over the years. These scientists also gave a talk on how these enterprising can join ISRO
Principal Shubha Pandit,K J Somaiya College of Engineering said “I am glad to see the efforts my students have taken for the festival. Our students have taken a great initiative of inviting ISRO to be a part of the tech-fest .In a very short time ISRO gave training to our students through workshops. They learnt a lot by even volunteering in the exhibition.I feel that this is a great platform for students to be moivated.I feel that if children get the right guidance at this age then only they would be able to make decisions about their future”
ISRO scientist, Dr Ratan Bisht said “It was a great experience interacting with the students of The Somaiya School , as they are very enthusiastic to learn about space and technology, particularly the small kids, listening to their questions and seeing their enthusiasm seems like they already knew a lot about ISRO before hand.Their questions were genuine, which can only come when they have interest in space technology.I was extremely happy to have the interaction with the students”
Another feature that excited the students at the tech fest was the Internship Expo a great platform for budding engineers and deserving candidates, for an opportunity to get internship in various fields ranging from technical to marketing fields.
The tech-fest had organized a variety of innovative competition, such as Circuit in the Box, With cryptography, efficiency in coding and hardware along with a fun element added to it. Bridge the gap ,this event required teams to make a durable structure out of Popsicle sticks. The construction was to be done while keeping in mind various specifications. This event tested the prefabrication skills of the participating teams. Robo-Cross, a competition to put forth a challenges designed to test ones skill in every department of robot assembly
Speaking on the festival an excited student from 5th Grade of The Somaiya School said “through this exhbition I felt so motivated,I never imagined that one day I would meet a scientist.Because of this festival I got a chance to meet them in person. I also got a chance to see a rocket which I have only seen before on the internet, but here I got a chance to see it and even understand how it works.”
This year too the festival managed to keep up with the expectations, like every other year with enthusiastic students on the campus, high on energy levels filled with zest and excitement to explore new avenues.
