Director's Message
With more than 82 years of legacy in delivering high-quality education, Somaiya Vidyavihar provides a wide range of academic programs across various disciplines. Founded in 2019, Somaiya Vidyavihar University holds the distinction of being the first private university in Mumbai, and one of its significant offerings is the Engineering education, through K. J. Somaiya School of Engineering KJSSE (formerly known as K J S E), Mumbai.
With a rich history of nearly four decades, KJSSE has not only maintained its tradition of academic excellence but has also adapted with the continually evolving industry trends. The K. J. Somaiya School of Engineering offers a diverse range of 10 Under Graduate (B.Tech.) programs, encompassing the traditionally successful disciplines as well as cutting-edge, multidisciplinary offerings in Artificial Intelligence & Data Science, Electronics & Computer Engineering, Computer & Communication Engineering, Robotics & Artificial Intelligence , Computer Science & Business Systems and Electronics Engineering( VLSI Design & Technology). The curriculum for these programs, aligned with NEP 2020 and industry trends, offers state-of-the-art courses and labs for emerging areas of technologies along with valuable elements like skills enhancement courses, project-based learning, internship, etc. The curriculum promotes academic flexibility for students through a wide range of elective courses as well as opportunities to specialize in their chosen engineering field through an Honour degree or Minor degree. The Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) scheme of Government of India is also practiced at KJSSE and Somaiya Vidyavihar University.
The K. J. Somaiya School of Engineering also provides a selection of 09 Post Graduate (M.Tech.) programs, with opportunities for specializations and interdisciplinary learning. In a dedicated effort to foster research and development, KJSSE offers opportunities for doctoral studies through its Ph.D. programs in 06 disciplines. KJSSE further extends its educational offerings to include short-term Certification programs in diverse and cutting-edge technology fields, enabling students to acquire specialized knowledge and skills.
The active participation of students in various co-curricular / extra-curricular activities and competitions, including those like Smart India Hackathon, Orion Racing Car, RedShift Racing, Robocon, etc. and societal issue-focused initiatives, reflects KJSSE’s commitment to holistic development.
One of the most significant strengths of KJSSE lies in its exceptional placement records. The institution has a history of consistently facilitating successful job placements for its students, providing them with valuable career opportunities in reputed companies across diverse industries. The average annual package has been consistently increasing, rising from INR 9.5 Lakhs in 2022-23 to INR 10.9 Lakhs in the year 2023-24 (on-going). Notably, KJSSE students have been offered an impressive INR 58.00 Lakhs as the highest placement package in 2023-24.
KJSSE also encourages student engagement with its in-house incubation centre, "RIIDL" to promote entrepreneurship and start-ups. Furthermore, the institution offers a minor program in Entrepreneurship, empowering students to explore and develop their entrepreneurial skills and ideas. Further, KJSSE actively promotes and supports its students in pursuing higher studies, exemplified by many remarkable achievements, including one of the students securing the All India Rank 1 in the GATE 2023 examination, a substantial number of students gaining admission to prestigious universities overseas, and more.
The extensive reach of KJSSE’s alumni network spanning across the globe, reflects institute’s robust academic foundation, its ability to equip individuals with the skills needed to excel in a global and diverse landscape.
In the coming years, KJSSE has strategic plan to elevate its research and innovation ecosystem and foster a robust culture of project-based learning of new-age engineering, with a strong focus on making a significant societal impact through education. The ultimate goal is to establish KJSSE as one of the top engineering colleges globally, recognized and distinguished through prestigious rankings / ratings, strong institutional perception, and being the preferred choice for both students and faculty. This proactive vision emphasizes KJSSE’s commitment to excellence and its ongoing dedication to advancing education and research.
